So, yesterday, I survived my first holiday party at school with the kids. They (we) had a great time, no major issues, everything went smoothly in my class and the kids were relatively appropriate for the day. The day before Halloween they asked if they could bring in treats for the class and I said yes if A. they brought enough in for everyone and B. they tried to make it healthy -- and I left things at that.... not really expecting much. Well I was surprised to see how many of the kids brought things in... lots of fruit, carrots, pretzels, cupcakes and some candy.... and the mysterious bag of Doritos (but whatever). Then there was Kenia.... she brought 25 limes. Yup, limes. And in her broken English tried to tell me that we were supposed to do something with those limes, but I still don't really understand what. So not knowing what to do with 25 limes, I played the card of not having a knife at school since they are dangerous so we couldn't cut them open. So she passed out the whole limes to the kids and they thought that was the coolest thing about the party.
That's when you know you have arrived on the border :)
